Being a full-time boss gets exhausting sometimes, but there are other times where your passion peaks through and makes you remember why you started in the first place! Meet Chia, a 27-year-old self-employed esthetician from Saskatchewan, #Canada. She displays the true motto of doing what you love! Aside from running her own business, she also runs a lifestyle blog that we absolutely love! If you haven’t visited her blog, you need to – it’s called Just Peachy. On Chia’s blog she posts about #beauty, style, relationships, travel and more while dedicating a page to her audience called “Chat with Chia” where they can submit questions about anything! We were able to talk with Chia about her career path as an #esthetician, how she manages entrepreneurship and her social life, while also gaining insight on advice and tips for any aspiring girl bosses out there!
On Finding Her Passion
Luckily for me, I found my passion sooner than later. I come from a family of estheticians and I spent a lot of my youth playing with nail polish at my mom’s salon. It would be safe to say the beauty industry comes to me quite naturally. I always knew. All throughout high school I knew I wanted to go to beauty school, but I wanted to pursue another interest of mine, interior decorating. I took a quick course to see what it was all about and I loved it! I use that knowledge in my everyday life and it’s a fun hobby to switch up home décor! As soon as I completed that, I enrolled in beauty school. The rest is history.
On Her Day-to-Day Tasks as an Esthetician
I think the definition may change depending on location, but where I’m from an esthetician studies manicures/pedicures, facials, hair removal, body treatments, and artificial nails (gel/acrylic). They can also have training in specialty treatments like microdermabrasion, chemical peels, light treatments and other medical procedures. My days are filled with pedicures, (lots) of gel nails, (tons) of light cured polish manicures, full body waxing, and eye brow/lash tinting. I work long hours, but I absolutely love it!
I’ve been fortunate to have many mentors throughout my career, but my mother has always been my rock.
On Who Inspires and Motivates Her
I’ve been fortunate to have many mentors throughout my career, but my mother has always been my rock. She’s been in this industry for over 30 years and I’ve learned so much from her. I’ve never met anyone with her work ethic. I get it all from my momma.
On Balancing Her Career and Personal Life
I think the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I love everything that I do so it never feels like work.
I have no idea how I stay sane to be honest. I work my full time job anywhere from 9-12 hours Monday-Saturday. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I work on my blog most nights and weekends until my eyes start to close. On the weekends I make time for my friends/family and on top of it all I travel to see my (long distance) boyfriend. I think the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I love everything that I do so it never feels like work. I love my job, my hobbies, my friends, my work, and my boyfriend. It all just excites me, instead of drains me.
On Her Positive Impact on Chat with Chia
It’s overwhelming! I love that I’ve dedicate a page to those who need it, and it’s honestly surreal. Some people just don’t have anyone to talk to and it warms my heart knowing that I can be that person.
On Her Current Go-To Beauty Products for FW ‘16
This is tough! I am huge fan of the Clarisonic cleansing devices. I’ve done a whole post on it, actually. It sloughs away dead skin cells, encourages product to absorb better and keeps my skin glowing. It’s a must-have! I’m also obsessed with Zo Medical products. They have amazing eye creams, face creams, serums and primers. The list goes on and on!
Her Advice About Staying Positive on the Road to Entrepreneurship
Surround yourself with people who have the same goals as you. Having a great environment will naturally motivate you to always be better. Love what you do and work your ass off for it.
On Future Ventures
Who knows! Maybe open up my own nail salon? Maybe get married? Maybe have children? We’ll all just have to wait and see!
